CLARENDON, PA — There is a specific kind of magic found in the quiet ripples of the Farnsworth Branch, broken only by the sudden splash of a trout and the excited shout of a child who just felt their first "tug" on the line.

That magic returns this May as the Farnsworth Trout Club prepares to host the Annual Jeff Burns Memorial Children’s Fishing Contest. A staple of the Warren County spring calendar, the event continues its mission to honor the memory of Jeff Burns by fostering a lifelong love for the outdoors in the next generation of anglers.

For over a decade, the Farnsworth Trout Club has transformed its hatchery raceways into a premier destination for young fishers. The setup is perfect for beginners: the waters are heavily stocked, the banks are accessible, and the club members are always on hand to offer a bit of "pro-staff" advice on how to land a trophy.

"It’s not just about the fish," says one long-time club member. "It’s about seeing a kid put down the phone, pick up a rod, and realize how much fun we have right here in our own backyard."

    Prizes, Pop, and Participation

The tournament is designed to ensure every child walks away with a smile. While the competition can get friendly-feisty for the "Biggest Fish" and "First Catch" titles, the atmosphere remains focused on family fun.

    The club traditionally provides:

    A Community Legacy

The Jeff Burns Memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the community’s roots. By connecting local youth with the natural beauty of the Allegheny National Forest area, the Farnsworth Trout Club ensures that the heritage of Pennsylvania angling remains bait-ready and bright.

Registration is held on-site the day of the event. Whether your child is a seasoned pro or has never touched a worm, head out to Farnsworth Road this Memorial Day weekend to keep the tradition swimming.
